de la salle university vs university of the east. phew. what a game. down the wire.... the best game i ever saw in a long time. there was so much drama in the damn game. okay, so... la salle was up by 8 points with 18 seconds left. ue, made four free throws and a jumper,  so the lead was down to 2 with 8 seconds left. but then, the unimaginable happens. this scrappy ue player gets a shot of, then on the inbound, mr. mark benitez, ninja turtles as we call him (pauso ni louie lazo! haha! tinambakan daw nila adamson jrs ng 30 pts, 4th qtr lang, hindi pa daw siya naglaro. mana sa kuya ah, anyabang. hahaha. may ipagyayabang naman.) passed off to a ue player. the pass was for jayvee but he was too excited and ran all the way up court. so there... the ue guy, made the shot with no sweat. so, ue was up by 2 points, with 1.8 seconds left. a lot of things were being thrown on the court by ue students watching the game, yes, la salle thought it was over... so with 1.8 secs left, coach franz made up this amazing inbound play. i know this play, we used to do this back in highschool. so, there, base line inbound, triangle play, ue forgot cholo villanueva, and he made the damn basket. whooooooooo!!! jeeez, the lasalle side of things were in a rampage because of what just happened. so the game went into over time. that was another 5 basketball minutes of continuous cheering for us. 5 basketball minutes is pretty much 10-15 real life minutes. so there... that was pretty much a tiring period of time. but when we won, there was so much of this good feeling i cant tell. it brought out the lasallian in me. so there you go, the best game of the uaap for me.

you know what sucked the most about the game? the venue!!! it was just so hot and humid inside that blue eagle gym! ineeeet!

i really have to say this. because of cholo's outstanding performance, sagot ko na pagpapabrace nya. pati pa derma, ako na bahala...hahahaha! joke! hats off to mr. villanueva.

i just got news that froshies are allowed to take a maximum of 18 academic units. which sucks. because.... im already going to take 17 academic units. and what sucks more? algtrig is 4 units. so... i have to take algtrig now, why? because anmath1 is going to start on the third term. so there you have it. what to do???? i cant drop p.e. its useless. i want to drop it, but, pedance is just 2 units. so id still be missing one unit. so its useless.

im planning to drop genpsyc, which is psychology... yep, it doesnt have a co-requisite... im just going to take it sometime second year. so there we have it. i have a big problem facing me right now... 

so help me god.

Dangerous precedent

This is a difficult column to write because it’s a commentary on the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) technical committee’s decision upholding the University of the East (UE) protest of its 86-83 overtime loss to La Salle in a seniors basketball game last Thursday.

It’s difficult because I respect the men behind the technical committee. Ricky Palou, a good friend, is the head of the committee and Joe Lipa, another good friend, is the UAAP commissioner. I know them to be gentlemen of the highest order.

It’s doubly difficult because as many of you know, La Salle is my alma mater. I finished elementary and high school at La Salle and also earned my undergraduate degree at Taft.

For what it’s worth, let me say that I tried to be as objective as possible in analyzing what happened and in drawing a conclusion if the technical committee’s verdict was fair or unfair.

From news reports, I read the committee’s explanation as to why it decided to uphold the protest and reverse the outcome of the game. The explanation touched on a FIBA (Federation Internationale de Basketball) rule stating that a team can only call a timeout after a basket and before a player takes possession of the ball for an inbound.

The incidence of dispute came with 1.8 seconds left in regulation and UE ahead, 74-72. Marcy Arellano had just scored to push the Warriors on top. Pandemonium broke out as a crowd of about 8,000 roared at the Ateneo gym. La Salle’s J. V. Casio then took the ball and rifled a pass to Joseph Yeo who missed a desperation shot.

Table officials, however, ruled a timeout had been called by Archers coach Franz Pumaren before Casio’s inbound. Because the noise from the crowd was deafening, nobody heard the buzzer confirming the timeout. To set things right, the timeout was given and the clock was reset to 1.8 seconds. When play was resumed, Tyrone Tang threw in for La Salle from the baseline and the ball was tipped by UE, creating another inbound situation, this time under the Archers basket. Lo and behold, La Salle’s Cholo Villanueva managed to elude the defense and scored the equalizer a foot away from the hoop to force overtime. La Salle wound up winning in extension, 86-83.

UE protested on the grounds that no timeout should’ve been allowed as Casio had already inbounded the ball with 1.8 ticks left in regulation.

Last Saturday, the UAAP technical committee met to rule on the protest at the Ateneo athletics office. Palou presided at the meeting. Lipa, who is not a member of the committee, attended as commissioner. The committee members who came were Fr. Ermito de Sagun of the University of Santo Tomas, Ric Matibag of Adamson, Ramoncito Campos of La Salle and Bren Perez of UE. The University of the Philippines representative was not around.

After nearly two hours of deliberations, the committee upheld the UE protest and awarded the game to the Warriors by a score of 74-72. The decision meant that as far as the committee was concerned, the game ended with Yeo’s missed desperation shot.

Philippine Basketball League (PBL) commissioner Chino Trinidad couldn’t believe the verdict.

"There was a failure of the technical committee to administer the game," said Trinidad. "I’m not from La Salle. But why penalize La Salle for doing nothing wrong?" This is a dangerous precedent because it alters the way a game could be decided in the future. You want a game to be decided on the court by the players not in the boardroom by non-players."

I agree with Trinidad.

Assuming a technical violation was made, why was the timeout given and the game allowed to continue until overtime?

If La Salle had no right to call a timeout, why did the table officials reset the clock and allow it? That only meant La Salle was not the culprit but the victim in this comedy of errors. And if it isn’t the culprit, why should it be penalized?

Assuming UE has grounds for a protest, the judicious and prudent decision–under the circumstances–would be to order a replay. To reverse the outcome as a penalty is clearly not commensurate to the "crime" or "violation" committed.

If the issue is whether or not Pumaren called a legitimate timeout before Casio inbounded, then the technical committee should summon the table officials to determine what really happened.

No doubt, the table officials will confirm Pumaren’s call because if not, they wouldn’t have reset the clock and allowed the timeout.

And if Pumaren was not in violation of any rule, why should La Salle be penalized so harshly? Is this the way the UAAP decides issues? What message will it send to the players who played their guts out in overtime to gain a win that is later taken away by some illogical decision?

Perhaps, no one is at fault. Can you blame the crowd for roaring and making it impossible for anyone to hear the buzzer confirming the timeout?’ Obviously, the referees can’t slap a technical foul on the crowd.

There are certain unforeseen conditions that sometimes come into play in the course of a game and the technical committee must learn to cope with the realities of a frenzied atmosphere. Whatever lapses it commits because of those conditions should not be taken against any team, player or coach.

The technical committee shouldn’t be too literal in deciding issues. It should consider more the spirit, rather than the letter, of the law.

I’m sure that deep down inside, UE coach Dindo Pumaren wouldn’t mind replaying the game if only to preserve the integrity of the game and prove something to his older brother. No team, no coach, no player would like to win this way.

Did UE deserve to win after La Salle came back from the grave to pull off a squeaker in overtime?’ Frankly, I doubt if even the technical committee will say yes.

I was told that La Salle will appeal the decision to the UAAP Board which has jurisdiction on a protest that is contested.

From the looks of things, a replay is in order.

alumni homecoming was held last night at the marist highschool covered courts. and was it a blast or what? so, batch 80 sponsored the homecoming shit. with miss giselle sanchez as host. damn, was it hot in that place or was it just giselle? hahahaha! so there... she was the lady in red for that night. moving on... so there was a buffet, and hey!!! drinks were served. i mean, beer. great for us freshies. we got ourselves two pitchers of beer for our batch... and batch 79 donated another two... yeah! thanks to you sirs! we salute you all!

so there was beer all over the place. batch 79 kept sending us pitchers of beer. whoa! this guy from 79 even said, "walang uuwi ng hindi lasing!" hahahaha! ayos ka boss! ikaw ang hot! idol kita. so we gave the guy a lively round of applause for his generosity. we shook hands with him and all. he kept giving us drinks till there was beer available. whooooooo!!!

and so, batch 2k.5, fresh off the seats of the baccalaureat mass and graduation ceremonies was ofcourse, the center of attention. not to mention the goodlooking young adults(*ehem ehem*) in the group... so every body was asking us about college and stuff. and, oh, you wouldnt believe this part. the ushrettes, were on our table. yeah. hawker was stunned by what happened to him, i wouldnt mention it here, but damn, was he shocked. hahaha! i saw the look on his face, and whoaaaa he was frozen solid! then, they (the usherettes) stayed on our table. thats where all the hotties were daw eh. hahahaha! so yun... bsta. the best night!!! todo bonding with the hs barkada. mga keepsake kind of friends i have! grabe. and we went home at around 3 am, everyone was just getting to darn lazy to go home, we all wanted to stay and talk about each others college life. and our reason for not going home early??? "COLLEGE NA EH. DI NA HINAHANAP NG MAGULANG." yeah boy! thats the spirit. hahahaha! the best tlaga ang highschool!

    holy crap! this day was a mess!!! dad woke me up at around 4.30... jesus christ. im not going to survive this term. i badly need a dorm. argh!!! so there... 7am, algtrig opens my day... nothin much for today. im just really pissed off at my damn schedule. i cant seem to figure out what to do during my long.... 3hour break. my blockies start their class at 10am, but i dropped that class to make room for algtrig. so, im going to rott for 3 hours in de la salle. what a waste of time, and yet, another good reason for a dorm or a condo. so mom? whats it gonna be? seeing your son, beat up and tired every damn day, or let him stay in a dorm, where he can study properly and get enough rest... whats it gonna be? and i promise im going to study!!!!

 

    so... this day is just one tiring piece of stinkin shit. thats all i can say, and i got a photo with bamboo!!! yebah! bamboo rocks! ill post it sometime this week. chillax people. if it wouldnt be too much of a favor, please pray for my soul, pray that i get through this term, year, and the course.... after 4 years, i'd be proud to say... "I've been through hell and back."

BEAT ATENEO, ANIMO LA SALLE!!

so, we beat ateneo... we didnt just beat them, we clobbered them, ripped them into tiny bits and pieces, took the dignity out of them, stomped them, whooooooo!!! yebah! ryan arana rules! and, damn, was his victory dance on ken barracoso the best or what? hahahaha! the technical foul? no big deal, that was a consolation to ateneo, so they wouldnt be down by such a big margin. so, if i remember correctly, 72-55 was the final score. ateneo? all talk. and did i say, TALK IS CHEAP. PROVE!!! the archers just proved to us they were worth the long wait. 

ateneo better change their name to fire, because we just stompped them out!!!

This  would  give you guides on how to control your emotions towards your better-half,   friends,  officemates  and  all  the  people  around  you,  especially  your "boss". The rules of practicing  "ugaling langit, ugaling  kaaya-aya" :

You  should  also know and realize that the persons who make your day bad  are jewel, because you need them for you to mature.  Hangga't andyan daw sila at kinaiinisan mo, ibig sabihin, immature ka pa.  God  will  not take away those people; it's for you to take away your bad  feelings towards them.  You'll  know  na  mature  ka  na  pag  dumating 'yung time na hindi ka na  naiinis  sa  mga taong ito because you have learned to accept them and to  have patience with them.

 

#5 Finally, the best part of this is to tell yourself na, because of this

yes. you heard me right. i want lasalle to again beat the living day light out of those friggin ateneans. they've been swept all season long, and i want them to do it again. i want ryan arana to break it down infront of all those wussy son's of bitches!

argh! i know i once cheered for ateneo. but this suddenly changed. there are just some things that make me think twice. on the other hand, if ateneo wins, they have to beat us again. but i feel it, ateneo will fall hard for the third time. i have tickets for tomorrows game, i have four, my blockmates asked kasi if i can get them tickets. haha! so me, abby, tani and trix would be watching. wala si marc, namatay,. shiiiit!

 nga pala. we just found out na takot kami sa daga! kasama ko si jiggy at tani. hahahaha. kalalaking tao takot sa punyetang daga. anlaki kasi eh. hahaha. baka pumasok sa pantalon ko. hahahaha!

dorm life again on monday. sarap ng dsl. faster than satan. haha.

ateneo? tssss... piece of cake. 3-0 this season. they were asking for "one more game" they got it. another blow out!!! hahaha! no match. it was just showtime for joseph yeo and the archers. yeah. i have to give it to ateneo, they're line up is big, but were just better. BOO YAH!

so, after that blow out, its feu-dlsu again in the finals. what a great match up. winners for the last two seasons... so who will it be? will my alma matter repeat and grab yet another championship? or will the tams prevail and bring home the beacon... who knows?

atleast, there's no ateneo in the friggin line up! sorry guys. hahaha!

its because, people tend to forget everything you've been through in a blink of an eye. just like that. i still dont know how they do it, im clueless. i dont know, maybe she/they are already used to leaving people who value them... i dont know. it pisses me off. anyway... back to life, move on bastard!

so... i have to study for databas, database management system shit. argh. cant relate. maybe ICTM just isnt for me. hahaha. thats for you to know, and for me to find out. lets just hope, i dont find it out the hard way.

english time kanina, napagalitan group namin. damn! we kept on laughing and throwing jokes at each other. si paolo kasi eh! kung ano ano naiisip! hahaha! tapos marge(calysta) was writing down what ever we say. parang type writter. hahaha! ayos. maganda naman results ng mga sagot namin. hahaha!

argh! bored to death... again... i hafta study for my math quiz tomorrow. jeez.. but im not doing that... im here... sitting infront of my computer. whoa. i have a class later, 11:40 to be exact.. its 11:00 already... 40 more minutes of waiting... whoooo... oh, i forgot, i have only one class today. thats sociology. jeezz. what a waste of time. ate breakfast at 'luto ni ina' knna in burgundy... pwede. hehe. sarap yung tapsilog nila.

GAME 2

    Arwind Santos is simply the best all around player in the UAAP, we'll give them that. Arwind, going into game one, was just on fire. hitting 29 markers, including the game clinching tip in. We almost had the win... ALMOST.

    5.5 seconds left, FEU was well aware of what JV Casio can do from beyond the arc. I couldnt say FEU sucks, because they're just so good. They showed excellent defense, and they made sure Casio was in sight. Good game for my school, next game, we're taking the win.

    but the stupid team manager of lasalle just couldnt help it, he put another bad impression on our alma matter. giving arwind santos a cheap shot after the game, what a loser! cant we just accept the fact the arwind is too talented. giving him a cheap shot wouldnt do anything. crazy ass manager! 

next game, do or die, win or go home... whats it gonna be archers?
